Summer evening class card (ages 14+)

Teens and adults need summertime fun just as much as children, but vacation trips and work surprises can make it difficult to sign up for classes that require attendance week after week. Enter the Summer Evening Class Card, which gives you the flexibility to select the classes that best fit your summer plans. The choice is yours - explore one class or try a different class each week!


June 11 - August 9  *No Class the Week of July 2-6* 

$75 for 4 Classes OR $140 for 8 Classes

Drop-ins Welcome! $20 Drop-in Fee per Class

If you decide to purchase a 4 or 8 Class Card after dropping-in, the $20 drop-in fee will be applied toward the cost of your class card.

Summer evening Class Descriptions

Mondays, June 11 - August 6 | 6:30-8:00 PM

Intermediate Modern Technique: Students with a thorough grounding in modern dance work are invited to solidify their execution of technique and understanding of dance theory. Classes may include improvisation and composition in order to foster students’ growth into well-rounded dancers who have both strong technique and individual style.  *Limit: 18 students*  At least 2 years of experience required.

Tuesdays' Sampler | 6:30-7:30 PM

Beginning Modern Technique (June 12, 19 & 26): A unique opportunity for beginning dance students to experience physicality in a thoughtful and fun environment. This introduction to modern technique will focus on the basic fundamentals and vocabulary of modern dance. Students will also increase their flexibility, muscle tone, short term memory, imagination, and an awareness of how the body can move in the safest and most efficient manner. No experience required.

Yoga (July 10 & 17): This Vinyasa yoga class will improve your physical and mental well-being. We will focus on increased body awareness while cultivating flexibility, strength, and balance. Breath work and meditation make this an excellent class for those wishing to exercise body, mind, and spirit. Suitable for all levels.

World Dance (July 24 & 31, August 7): Dance is a portal to a culture and its people. This class will take students on a geographical and historical journey of dance, through cultures and landscapes as near as NYC Bronx and as far as Mumbai. Join Diandra Jones in honoring and studying the nuances of West African cultural and contemporary dance, Caribbean Soca, old school NYC Hip Hop, Indian Bhangra, Hawaiian Hula, Brazilian Samba, Irish Step, Spanish Flamenco, and Middle Eastern Belly Dance. Prepare to whine your waist, move and groove, shimmy and shake to rhythms from around the world. No experience required.

Wednesdays, June 13 - August 8 | 6:30-8:00 PM

Intermediate/Advanced Modern Technique: This class was designed for students with a solid command of modern dance vocabulary. Technique is refined as students master increasingly difficult dance combinations and exercises. Using a collaborative structure, emphasis is placed on improvisation to increase students’ creative abilities.  *Limit:18 students*  At least 4 years of experience required.

Thursdays' Sampler | 6:30-7:30 PM

West African Dance (June 14, 21 & 28): In this introduction class to West African dance, students will learn the basic steps in several cultural dances beginning with a thorough warm up, sequencing, and across the floor movements. With emphasis on musicality and rhythm, this class is sure to get your heart pumping and body moving. No experience required.
Instructor: Diandra Jones

Intermediate Ballet (July 12 & 19): Students will continue their training in vocabulary, positions, and traditional steps. Students will be challenged in both sequencing and difficulty of movement positions. Physical alignment, balance, strength, flexibility, and control within a tension free body will be emphasized. At least 2 years of ballet experience required.

Beginning Hip Hop (July 26, August 2 & 9): In this beginning hip hop class, students will relieve stress and condition the body while aerobically dancing in a safe and supportive environment! A consistent weekly warmup will isolate and strengthen different muscle groups while working out to upbeat music. Students will learn stylized, rhythmic, and coordinated hip hop moves and will then put them all together in a combination to a current hip hop hit! No experience required.

Teen Modern Intensive Workshop (AgeS 11-13)

August 6-10 | 5:00-6:30 PM | Tuition: $120

This week-long intensive will focus on providing serious dancers with strong training in modern technique, partnering, improvisation, and choreography. Students will be challenged in a fun and supportive atmosphere as technical ability and creativity are emphasized equally. At least 2 years of dance experience required.
