Summer Sparks Juniors (Ages 6-8) 

Arts Together is thrilled to offer a series of fun and enriching summer camp programs for six - to eight-year-olds at Raleigh Charter High School, conveniently located only a five minute drive away from Arts Together. Campers who participate in the Arts Together Summer Sparks camps will be able to take advantage of Raleigh Charter's gorgeous facilities.  Families who are looking for special arts and educational enrichment programs for their children won't want to miss out on these exciting camps, taught by full-time teachers (many from the Wake County Public School System). Six to eight-year-olds can sign up for a half day camp or a whole day comprised of two camps. All campers should pack a snack and a reusable drink container each day. Those attending all day will have a supervised 30 minute lunch period and will need to bring their own lunch.

JUNE 19-23
Once Upon a Garden: Flowers have been turned into art throughout history.  In this class we’ll take a look at art including Georgia O-Keefe, Japanese cherry blossom ink paintings, Van Gogh garden paintings, and much more.  We’ll create paper flowers, sumi-e ink paintings, and finally a painting of our own imagined garden.  How to draw and paint flowers, leaves, stems, and trees will be covered in different mediums. Instructor: Rebecca Rousseau

Owls, Owls, Owls: What a hoot! In this class we’ll take a look at the spectacular owl.  We’ll draw, paint, and create cloth collages of all owls, from the Barn Owl to the amazing Snowy Owl.  We’ll create fantastic patterns in the wide span of the owl’s wings and colorful paintings of an owl at rest. Instructor: Rebecca Rousseau


JUNE 26-30
Keep Calm, Cray-On: With so many books about crayons and coloring, crayon mania is in full swing!  Melted crayons, crayon resist, crayon initials, crayon rubbings… and crayon coming to life?!?  Come join us for this crayon fun! Instructor: Sandi Gifford

Guitars: Strummin' & Hummin': Do you like guitars?  This is your camp!  Whether or not you’ve ever played a string instrument before, come and learn some new tricks on guitars.  We will explore soprano and baritone ukuleles, cigar box guitars, classical guitars, and steel string acoustics.  We might even plug in from time to time and see what electric guitars and basses can do!  This will be a week full of string instruments.  Bring your own or use one of ours, because it’s going to be AWESOME.  For beginner, intermediate or expert kids. Instructor: Matt Vooris  (Tuition $180, includes $20 materials fee)


JULY 10-14
Outdoor Art Explorers: Let’s explore our natural world – animals, rocks, plants, and mountains – through art.  We’ll take nature hikes for observing, drawing, and collecting.  Projects will include leaf rubbings, drawing and etching insects, pastel landscapes, painted flowers, and more. Instructor: Shari Burgdorf

Puppets: No Strings Attached: Puppets come in many different shapes and sizes.  Using our fingers, pipe cleaners, bags, felt, paper, boxes, sticks and maybe even a few strings, we will create some wonderfully fabulous puppets.  Our puppets will come to life in a short performance! Instructor: Shari Burgdorf


JULY 17-21
Stepping Into Stardom: Junior Theatre Camp

Do you enjoy singing, dancing, acting, making music, designing costumes and scenery? Then this week will put all your creative skills and talents to work as you put together a musical. This camp is a true celebration of the multi-arts approach: campers will spend the mornings working on the music and the afternoons will focus on staging and designing the show.  Instructors: Kellie Harris & Carolyn Shade-Gray

Tuition: $320 *Note: This is a full day camp that meets in the morning and afternoon! Students will need to bring two snacks and a lunch each day.*

JULY 24-28
Dance, Camera, Action: Create a dance piece that is truly original using your artistic eye and the latest tech gadgets!  Using photography and iPads, students will travel between Raleigh Charter’s Black Box Theater and around the campus to capture their movements in order to create a unique piece of performance art together as a group! Instructor: Jessi Tilden

Splash into Art: Dive into everything watercolor! Spray it, wax it, drip it-even rip it up and put it back together! Water Themes for this year include dolphins, boats and a few surprises. Instructor: Sandy Gifford

Late Dismissal

Late Departure (4:30-5:15pm)         $30 per week  

Campers will be able to stay for up to an extra 45 minutes of activities to round out their day.  In addition, you will have a little more flexibility in your travel time! Students enrolled in afternoon sessions may be picked up as late as 5:15pm. This option is only available at the Raleigh Charter High School location.
