BEGINNING MODERN TECHNIQUE (AGES 8-10)

Monday | 4:30-5:30 PM

Instructor: Karen Warr

Students build strength, flexibility and skill as they learn how to move their bodies in the safest, most efficient manner. To cultivate their understanding of the creative, expressive nature of dance alongside their technical skills, students use improvisation to develop their own personal styles. Students must have one year prior dance training or permission from the instructor to enroll. Tuition includes costume for end-of-year Dance Fest performance.

  • No classes on December 24 & 31, January 21, April 15

BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE MODERN TECHNIQUE (AGES 11-13)

Monday | 4:30-5:30 PM

Instructor: Kathryn Auman

Focusing on alignment, balance and sequencing, students develop their execution of technique through exercises and combinations across the floor, while working on their grasp of dance theory. Classes include improvisation and composition in order to produce versatile dancers who have both solid technique and individual style by the end of the course. Students age 11 must have two years prior dance training or permission from the instructor to enroll. Tuition includes costume for end-of-year Dance Fest performance.

    ART-A-RAMA (AGES 9-12)

    Monday | 5:30-6:30 PM

    Instructor: Renee Boyette

    From acrylic painting, paper mache and drawing to printmaking, weaving, clay sculpture and more, students express themselves using a multitude of artistic techniques! With their imaginations leading the way, students create all kinds of projects, growing their confidence with their skills.

    INTERMEDIATE TEEN MODERN TECHNIQUE (AGES 13-19)

    Monday | 5:30-6:45 PM

    Instructor: Megan Mazarick

    Students with a thorough grounding in modern dance solidify their execution of technique and understanding of dance theory. Classes include improvisation and composition in order to produce well-rounded dancers who have both strong technique and individual style by the end of the course. Students must have three years prior dance training or permission from the instructor to enroll.

    HIP HOP TWEENS (AGES 10-14)

    Instructor: Kayla Grinnell

    Leave the stress of school behind, and bring your friends to this funky, fresh dance class! Students learn traditional jazz dance technique and the stylized movements and rhythms of hip hop, while building strength, coordination and flexibility in this beginning to intermediate course. Tuition includes costume for end-of-year Dance Fest performance.

    BREAKDANCING 101 WORKSHOPS (AGES 8+)

    Tuesday | 6:30-7:30 PM

    Instructor: Raleigh Rockers Crew

    The Raleigh Rockers Crew was originally founded in 2006 as a breakdancing club at NC State University. The club hosted open practices to the Raleigh community and became a place for people to learn and grow as dancers. By 2010, they began to "battle," and now the club travels to compete, teach workshops and perform community outreach. In this workshop, students study the basics of breakdancing, such as toprock, footwork, freezes and power moves, as well as its history in hip hop culture. Cool moves to show off anywhere you go!

    • FALL WORKSHOP DATES: September 25 - November 13
    • SPRING WORKSHOP DATES: February 5 - March 26
    • Tuition: $140 for each 8-week workshop (payable upfront or in installments)

    INTERMEDIATE BALLET (AGES 11+)

    Instructor: Stacey Shumake

    Students continue their ballet training in vocabulary, positions and traditional steps, while being challenged in sequencing and difficult movement positions. Physical alignment, balance, strength, flexibility and control within a tension-free body is emphasized. Ballet shoes required. Students must have two years prior ballet training.

    Ballet students learn the basic positions, vocabulary and traditional sequence of exercises, moving from the barre to the center, then across the floor. Physical alignment, balance, strength, flexibility and control within a tension-free body is emphasized. Ballet shoes required. Tuition includes costume for end-of-year Dance Fest performance.

    INTERMEDIATE MODERN TECHNIQUE (AGES 14+)

    Thursday | 5:30-7:00 PM

    Instructor: Kathryn Auman

    Designed for students with a solid command of modern dance technique, this class challenges dancers to work on alignment and execution of movement for a clearer understanding of dance theory. Improvisation and composition is used to experiment with elements learned in previous classes. Students must have three years prior modern dance training.

    • Class meets for a total of 32 sessions from September 6 - May 16
    • No classes: November 22, December 20 & 27, February 28, April 18
    • Tuition: $650 (payable upfront or in monthly installments)
