INTERMEDIATE TEEN MODERN TECHNIQUE (AGES 13-19)

Monday | 5:30-6:45 PM

Instructor: Megan Mazarick

Students with a thorough grounding in modern dance solidify their execution of technique and understanding of dance theory. Classes include improvisation and composition in order to produce well-rounded dancers who have both strong technique and individual style by the end of the course. Students must have three years prior dance training or permission from the instructor to enroll.

ADVANCED MODERN TECHNIQUE (AGES 15+)

Advanced Modern Technique is a professional level course for the serious dancer. Students stretch themselves as they learn complex dance combinations and exercises. Classes are taught in a collaborative environment with a focus on composition and improvisation to heighten students’ creativity. This class is perfect for the future, current or former dance major or professional dancer. Students must have five years prior modern dance training.

  • Class meets for a total of 32 sessions from September 10 - May 13

  • No classes: December 24 & 31, January 21, April 15

  • Tuition: $650 (payable upfront or in monthly installments)

BEGINNING HIP HOP WORKSHOPS (AGES 16+)

Monday | 6:45-7:45 PM

Instructor: Kathryn Auman

In this beginning hip hop workshop, students relieve stress and condition the body while aerobically dancing in a safe and supportive environment! A consistent weekly warmup with upbeat music isolates and strengthens different muscle groups. Students learn stylized, rhythmic and coordinated hip hop moves and then put them all together in a combination to a current hip hop hit! No dance experience required.

YOGA FOR MOMS SPRING WORKSHOP (AGES 18+)

Tuesday | 9:30-10:30 AM

Instructor: Cate Marvill

Led by Cate Marvill, RYT 200 and mom of three, this postpartum yoga flow workshop safely cultivates core strength from pelvis to shoulders, creating more ease in the body. To counter all of the bending, lifting and holding activities of mothering, we move through poses that lengthen, strengthen and release tension in our shoulders, lower backs, abdominals and glutes. We practice real self-care by moving, connecting with self, and finding support through shared experiences. Each class includes breath work, restorative poses and suggested stretches to practice at home to help you leave fully restored. Suitable for all levels with modifications available for specific postpartum periods, whether you’re 3 months or 13 years postpartum.

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED MODERN TECHNIQUE (AGES 15+)

This class was designed for students with a solid command of modern dance vocabulary. Technique is refined as students master increasingly difficult dance combinations and exercises. Using a collaborative structure, greater emphasis is placed on composition and improvisation to increase students' creative abilities. Students must have four years prior modern dance training.

  • Class meets for a total of 32 sessions from September 4 - May 14.

BREAKDANCING 101 WORKSHOPS (AGES 8+)

Instructor: Raleigh Rockers Crew

The Raleigh Rockers Crew was originally founded in 2006 as a breakdancing club at NC State University. The club hosted open practices to the Raleigh community and became a place for people to learn and grow as dancers. By 2010, they began to "battle," and now the club travels to compete, teach workshops and perform community outreach. In this workshop, students study the basics of breakdancing, such as toprock, footwork, freezes and power moves, as well as its history in hip hop culture. Cool moves to show off anywhere you go!

EARLY BIRD YOGA (AGES 16+)

Improve your physical and mental well-being by starting your day with energy and balance in this vinyasa yoga class! We focus on increased body awareness while cultivating flexibility, strength and balance. Breath work and meditation make this an excellent class for those wishing to exercise body, mind and spirit. Suitable for all levels.

Students continue their ballet training in vocabulary, positions and traditional steps while being challenged in sequencing and difficult movement positions. Physical alignment, balance, strength, flexibility and control within a tension-free body is emphasized. Ballet shoes required. Students must have two years prior ballet training.

In this beginning/intermediate modern dance class, students enhance fundamental modern dance skills and vocabulary. Different movement qualities and tones are also explored through improvisation and composition.

Improvisation and composition is used to experiment with elements learned in previous classes. Students must have three years prior modern dance training.

WORLD DANCE WORKSHOPS (AGES 15+)

Thursday | 7:00-8:00 PM

Instructor: Diandra Jones

Dance is a portal to a culture and its people. This workshop takes students on a geographical and historical journey of dance, through cultures and landscapes as near as New York City's Bronx and as far as Mumbai. Each week, we honor and study a dance from another culture like Brazilian Samba, Indian Bhangra, Middle Eastern Belly Dance, Reggaeton, Soca/Afrobeat and more! Prepare to wine your waist, move and groove, and shimmy and shake to rhythms from around the world. No dance experience required.

MORNING FLOW YOGA (AGES 16+)

Friday | 9:30-10:30 AM

Instructor: Liz Holt

Perfect for parents dropping off their preschooler but open to all, this one-hour class is great for all levels of yoga experience including beginners! We practice varying series of gentle vinyasa flow poses with breath work that gently awakens your senses, body, mind and spirit. Students gain flexibility, strength and alignment, and each class ends with restorative relaxation, leaving you refreshed and at peace. Suitable for all levels.
