Rainbow Dance Company

celebrating more than 30 years as Raleigh's only multi-generational dance company

Arts Together is proud to sponsor The Rainbow Dance Company, a multi-age modern dance company.

Now in its 32nd season, Rainbow Dance Company was the brainchild of Arts Together founder Lemma Mackie. This multi-age company celebrates the strength of the many creative voices found in children, teens and adults. Dancers are invited to join after showing a passion and commitment for creating, learning and performing. Company members are seen as collaborative artists who contribute throughout the choreographic process.

In addition to taking two to three technique classes per week, dancers participate in the creation of one or more repertory pieces to be performed at the company's annual concert. Over the years, the company has nurtured the individual talents of many dancers who have moved on to pursue dance professionally, including performing with internationally known choreographers and ensembles.

For more information about the Rainbow Dance Company, contact Company Director Kathryn Auman.

Every spring, the Rainbow Dance Company holds a modern dance concert for all ages.

We share our studio and office space with longtime friends of Arts Together, Even Exchange Dance Theater.

Even Exchange Dance Theater (EEDT), is one of the Raleigh's leading professional modern dance companies.  Since 1997, EEDT has been involving audiences in modern dance through performances, school programming, and community partnerships.  The company's partners have included: artists, local leaders, veterans, inmates, seniors and at-risk youth.

Each year EEDT chooses a new theme and researches it by meeting experts in the field, collecting stories from the community, and drawing on company members' experiences.  Past themes include: fast-paced modern life, gender stereotypes, roles of spirituality, teenage memories, food and politics, aging, perspectives on history, and conflict resolution.

EEDT engages audiences in a variety of environments.  The company holds four types of performances.  An EEDT concert performance, which showcases new choreography, In Our Own Backyard (produced by EEDT and featuring Triangle choreographers), First Friday/Dance Seen (a free series introducing downtown Raleigh to diverse dance artists), and school shows and community events.
