DANCE FOR PRESCHOOLERS

DancePlay (ages 3-5)
Using stories, colorful props and wonderful music, this introductory course puts little dancers into motion. Children will explore a wide range of movement styles, learn basic dance principles and discover how to express feelings and ideas through music. Limit 12 students.

Little movers and shakers dive into all kinds of movement styles in this high energy class. Through a combination of tumbling, games and magical play, children will exercise their creativity. Creative Modern (ages 7-9)
In Creative Modern, students begin to learn body control and proper alignment through modern dance technique. Exercises are given at center and moving across the floor to facilitate increased coordination and flexibility. Improvisation and composition are also used to encourage students’ personal creativity and expression. Classes become more complex as students progress in age and ability. Limit 12 students.

In Modern Technique, students develop their execution of technique through exercises and combinations across the floor, while working on their grasp of dance theory. Classes will include improvisation and composition in order to produce well-balanced dancers who have both solid technique and individual style by the end of the course. Alignment, strength, balance and control within a tension-free body will be emphasized. This course is great for modern dance students who want to better understand the relationship between the two techniques, as well as those students who are looking for a thorough, intermediate to advanced level ballet class. Pilates exercise techniques have been popular with dancers for years because they strengthen core abdominal and back muscles, while increasing flexibility, balance and body alignment.
